My second post is a folder I came across that seems to have lost all star ratings and cropping. When contacting adobe with this issue they told me it was one or the other (xmp either stored in folder or in catalog) I was pretty sure the tech I talked to was wrong so I reached out here for clarification. That was resolved in the first response to this post.

So piecing the hierarchy back together and on seeing which folders I had to re-import I was looking into how I could update the.

As I have recently migrated from a Mac laptop and multiple external hard drives, my old folders had out of date xmp's and some folder names were different. The main issue I started with is when that drive started failing I was only able to salvage most of the folders. Upon attempting to post a quick reply it told me I was not logged in.

PS this is my second time writing this as the first was lost. Considering I had to spend a couple weeks now reorganizing my exact file heirarchy, researching means of recovering edits, and trying to save my old drive.

Any other inexpensive or free backup solutions? I would like to have a third drive that is identical in structure to my main storage drive. I read on here a recommendation to use Easeus Todo Backup Home 2.0. But this makes it near impossible to manually back up. To take advantage of lightroom's strengths I have been saving edits as jpeg, tiff, or psds to the original folder. My old structure worked well to manually backup as I exported finished tiffs to specific portfolio folders. I have tried to steer clear of anything raid but I have been interested in some new external usb drives that have raid built in. I currently only have a legit means of backing up catalogs and. Trying to make sense of this all as I look for a good means of backup. _filename and ds_store files are? and where are star rankings and cropping info stored if not in. Are these bridge file? I would think that if adobe created them that it would recognize them.Īny recommendations on recovering cropping and star ratings and what these. psd files that said to reopen in photoshop and resave with maximise compatability checked. _filename.psd that would not import, as well as. I also tried to sync the folder but ended up with. It grabbed the appropriate version and calibration settings but still no cropping or stars. I tried running the import metadata from file. One is in a backup folder and one in my main storage that LR is pointed to. I have the folder now redundant to experiment with.

In fact only three files have star ratings. I have a folder that I know has had recent edits (last few months) but most star ratings and all crops are not there. So far so good, one folder giving me issues. All catalog backups are on my main drive. The drive I lost is not my main os drive. I am not too sure if Lightroom is reading xmp's from the files or using them from the catalog.Ī little extra pertinent info. Looking through some older photos I noticed some have the old 2003 format. Am I safe to assume selecting all photos in my main catalog and writing xmp to file will resolve this issue. From the research I have done I believe my catalog backups also keep a copy of. xmp's so old folders that I had to grab from the mac are going to have out of date. Late last year I purchased a beautiful NEC 2690WuxiII and have been re-editing old photos extensively. xmp's as some I was able to recover, some I had to re-import from my mac external archives. I have recopied most folders back into a new advance rma drive WD sent me. I have only lost 2 folders as far as I can tell. I tweaked my file structure, relabled folders, etc. I had just about gotten everything organized. Last few months I have been migrating from a mac system. It showed up in a plastic retail container stuffed inside a box. I think shipment was to blame as I purchased from tigerdirect, was assured by "customer service" that it would be properly packaged.

I will be trying data recovery software but it may take 2-5 weeks to run spinrite 6 on that large of a drive. I have recently lost a 2 month old WD Caviar Black Hard Drive. I am a pretty experienced user but would like a second, third opinion.
